One of the latest additions to Madrid’s flourishing food business is the MadrEat food truck market. This is not your typical hot dog stand, these are retro styled food trucks and old converted campers bringing some of the best restaurants to the street. Here you will find some new start ups trying to make a name for themselves all the up to established Michelin starred restaurants creating street food options. (I have to say i was not impressed at all with the trucks sponsored by the better known restaurants)
Food trucks are not typical in Spain, it is a relatively new concept that is becoming quite popular. What makes this fun it the truck designs all retro and each quite different from the other. You can tell the owners have put quite a bit of thought and work into their trucks. The market offers everything from traditional Spanish tapas like croquettes and tortilla Española to more innovative tastes like Korean pulled pork tacos. All the classics are here too, hamburgers, hotdogs, and sandwiches.
I was surprised at how many trucks were participating in the markets, just over 60! So there is plenty of choice. Some of my favorites are MeRio, brasilia specialties, Graciana with great Argentine empanadas, and Kitchen 154 for the Korean pulled pork taco (no truck yet still in a tent)
This is probably not the best place to go if you’re looking for typical Spanish food but if you want some cool offering in a great setting with music this could be required stop while in Madrid!
The market happens every third weekend of the each month. See the next dates below. Its located in Azca which is across form the Bernebeau stadium. Even though opening time is 12 noon I suggest not going until at least 1pm as many of the trucks didn’t have there stuff together right at opening time.
