Forget about being the Best In Spain, just last week I had the privilege to experience The Best Restaurant In The World, Celler Can Roca in Girona, Spain. I have a client who is currently visiting Spain, but called me for the first time back in January. By now I have a feel for my clients’ interests, and knowing the wait to get into Celler Can Roca is now 12 months, I went ahead and made reservations without being certain they would want to go or not. As it turned out, they indeed wanted to go, however, they had rented a villa near Sitges which is a good two hours from Girona. Considering all the kids and logistics once we laid out their itinerary, we decided Girona was too far to go for lunch or dinner, but they really wanted the experience. So if they could not go to the mountain, I thought, why not bring the mountain to their their villa!
Celler Can Roca caters too and believe me the catering menu is just as spectacular as their restaurant menu. The Roca brothers did not disappoint my clients one bit. In the end, my clients’ entire group got to participate in this gastronomic spectacle in the comfort of their own villa rental. Since they were having dinner in at the villa, that left me with a reservation at Celler Can Roca!
Sometimes presentation overshadows the actual taste of the food, but this time the title “Best Restaurant in the World” is extremely well deserved. It is food theater and the taste was as great as the show. Of course not every plate was my favorite type of food, but the experience and quality over all was a sensory extravaganza that was an absolute pleasure. We ordered the festival menu with the wine pairing: fourteen plates, fourteen different cava and wines. Sounds like an excessive amount but, after all, it is a tasting and is well paced over four hours– an experience that I will always remember.
A special thank you to Cristina, Jordi, and Encarna for a great experience for my clients and for myself. Truly professional and a pleasure to work with. Well done!
